The Suburb

Hawthorn is an inner suburb of Melbourne, Australia, 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) east of Melbourne’s central business district situated in the City of Boroondara.

The area was first settled in the late 1830s. The Boroondara Roads Board, the first municipal authority, was set up in the 1850s and covered a remarkably similar area to the present City of Boroondara. Boroondara is an aboriginal word reputed to mean place of shade. However, the Hawthorn Roads Board and the Kew Roads Board split from the rest of Boroondara in 1860. The HRB evolved into the Town of Hawthorn and the City of Hawthorn.

The region is generally regarded to be one of Melbourne’s surviving bastions of post-Gold Rush expansion and today, one of Melbourne’s most affluent and influential suburbs. Land values in the region are among the country’s highest, with streets such as Hawthorn Grove, in the prestigious Grace Park Estate, straddling the suburb’s northern boundary and Yarra Park’s Coppin Grove in the west, located closer to the Yarra River have been arguably the most sought after with properties commanding prices to match.

What We Did

Working with Australian Venue Co, Nextrend provided new seating to use throughout the venue.  With Beer Deluxe utilising woods and metals throughout their interior design, the Genoa range of products was a natural fit.  Additionally Walnut and Shesman tops were used to accompany the Genoa Stools and Tables.

The Suburb

Melbourne is the coastal capital of the southeastern Australian state of Victoria. At the city’s centre is the modern Federation Square development, with plazas, bars, and restaurants by the Yarra River. In the Southbank area, the Melbourne Arts Precinct is the site of Arts Centre Melbourne – a performing arts complex – and the National Gallery of Victoria, with Australian and indigenous art.

The city was founded on 30 August 1835, in the then-British colony of New South Wales, by free settlers from the colony of Van Diemen’s Land (modern-day Tasmania). It was incorporated as a Crown settlement in 1837, and named Melbourne by Governor General Richard Bourke on 10 April 1837 in honour of the British Prime Minister, William Lamb, 2nd Viscount Melbourne. In 1851, four years after Queen Victoria declared it a city, Melbourne became the capital of the new colony of Victoria. In the wake of the 1850s Victorian gold rush, the city entered a lengthy boom period that, by the late 1880s, had transformed it into one of the world’s largest and wealthiest metropolises. After the federation of Australia in 1901, it served as interim seat of government of the new nation until Canberra became the permanent capital in 1927. Today, it is a leading financial centre in the Asia-Pacific region and ranks 15th in the Global Financial Centres Index.

What We Did

RMIT Training was seeking comfortable and durable chairs and stools for their classrooms in Building 108.  Red Vita Chairs were selected to match their branding and provide a chair that has a reputation of sturdiness and longevity.  The Gio Barstool was selected for the art rooms and other classroom zones utilising high tables.  The black once again worked in with their branding and like the Vita Chair, the Gio barstool is tried and tested in the market, known as a long lasting, comfortable, commercial seat.

The Suburb

Paynesville is a tourist/holiday resort town in the Gippsland region of Victoria, Australia. At the 2006 census, Paynesville had a population of 2967. The town is located 293 kilometres east of the state capital, Melbourne. It is known as the boating capital of Victoria.

Paynesville was originally called Toonalook, which is an aboriginal name for “place of many fish”. The post office opened on 8 November 1879 as Toonalook and was renamed Paynesville in 1886 by the Dickson family, who still reside in the area.

Paynesville is a thriving town well served by a range of shops, cafes, a bank and a newly built community centre and library. Much of the town’s recent growth has stemmed from the development of a network of canals and prestige homes which have created two artificial islands within the township. Burrabogie Island is north of the waterfront shopping district, and Fort King Island is a residential area north of Burrabogie Island. Although Burrabogie and Fort King Island are separated only by an approximate 45-metre-wide man-made canal, they are the most distant points in Paynesville by road.

It is on these canals that you will find Captains Cove Resort.

What We Did

In November 2012, Captains Cove Resort first engaged Nextrend Furniture for the supply of resin rattan furniture for the interior and exterior dining areas of their apartments.  The resilience of the Florida chairs (which you will see are still used at Captains Cove today, 7 years on) motivated Captains Cove to continue to purchase resin rattan furniture over the years.  Today you will not only find Florida & Ibiza Chairs inside and out of apartments, but also Jamaica Barstools and Bali Tables proudly standing by.  Take a stroll down to the pool and you will also find Fiji Sunloungers and Aruba Chairs paired with Tequila side tables.
